How do I change ball joints on a 97 jeep cherokee4wd?

1. Remove steering knuckle.

2. Press ball joint from steering knuckle, you can use a big C clamp.

3. Put clamp over replacement ball joint and position it against yoke shoulder, then tighten clamp and press ball joint into knuckle.

4. Reinstall steering knuckle.|||Find a willing donor! not me - I need mine!|||take to a certified specialist.|||Its not a easy job .... if you%26#039;re asking here, I doubt if you would have the resources to do yourself. You need alot of tools I doubt you have. And you probably kill yourself trying if you did!

Not trying to be funny, It%26#039;s a serious job|||If you are not a mechanic or do not have the knowledge how to do it, don%26#039;t! You can screw up your front end. Take it to a mechanic. What I would do is go to a Jeep dealer and tell them you want them run a VIP history on the vehicle to see if there are any recalls. DaimlerChrysler had problems with the ball joints on certain Dodge Durango%26#039;s, so maybe they had some with Jeep. A recall is done at no charge to you. If there is no recall, tell them to see if there is a TSB (technical service bulletin.) If there is, tell them you want DaimlerChrysler to participate with you in the repair. They may offer to pay for the parts if you pay for the labor. Ask them to split parts and labor.
